The 2026 AI Roadmap: My Tech Stack for Productivity

By Mike Decides

As an IT executive with over 30 years in the industry, I’ve seen countless “next big things” come and go. But as we enter 2026, it’s clear that Artificial Intelligence isn’t just another buzzword—it’s the new operating system for a productive life.

The challenge for most professionals isn’t finding AI tools; it’s deciding which ones actually move the needle and which ones are just noise. Based on my experience leading tech teams and my own deep dives into AI learning models, here is the “decided” tech stack I’m using to kick off the new year.

1. The Personal “Second Brain”: Advanced LLMs

I don’t just use AI to write emails; I use it to synthesize complex information.

  • The Logic: I look for models that excel at “reasoning” rather than just “generating.”
  • My Stack: I lean heavily on tools that allow for deep-context windowing—meaning I can feed them an entire year’s worth of project notes or a 50-page technical manual, and they can help me find the patterns I missed.
  • The “Executive” Tip: Use AI as a sparring partner. Don’t ask it to “write this”; ask it to “critique my logic for this project plan.”

2. The Information Filter: AI-Powered Research

In 2026, we are drowning in data but starving for wisdom.

  • The Tools: I use specialized research agents that not only search the web but also verify citations and cross-reference multiple sources.
  • The Application: Whether I’m researching 21 CFR record retention requirements for work or scouting the best “slow travel” rail routes in Europe, these tools save me hours of manual vetting.

3. The “Meaning of Life” Perspective

One of my core interests is the intersection of AI and philosophy.

  • The Insight: AI is a mirror. The way it learns—by processing vast amounts of human experience—is a fascinating window into how we find meaning ourselves.
  • My Practice: I spend time “teaching” my AI personal assistant about my values and my faith. By doing so, it becomes a more effective filter for my schedule, ensuring that my time reflects my actual priorities: my family, my granddaughter, and my growth.

4. Security First (The CISO Mindset)

You can’t be productive if you aren’t secure.

  • The Non-Negotiable: Every tool in my stack must support robust MFA and have a clear data privacy policy. As an IT executive, I never trade security for convenience.
  • The 2026 Shift: I’m now using AI-driven security monitors at home that alert me to unusual traffic patterns on my network—the same tech we use in the enterprise, scaled for the home office.

The Executive Verdict

Efficiency isn’t about doing more things; it’s about doing the right things. AI, when used with a “decisive” mindset, is the ultimate tool for clarity.
